Section 1061EN — Social Security Act 1991: Meaning of in severe financial hardship

For the purposes of paragraph 1061EM(1)(e) as it applies to a person who makes a claim for special employment advance, the person is in severe financial hardship if: (a) where the person is not a member of a couple—the value of the person’s liquid assets (within the meaning of subsection 14A(1)) is less than the fortnightly amount of the maximum payment rate of the special employment advance qualifying entitlement that is payable to the person; or (b) where the person is a member of a couple—the value of the person’s liquid assets (within the meaning of subsection 14A(2)) is less than twice the fortnightly amount of the maximum payment rate of the special employment advance qualifying entitlement that is payable to the person.
