Section 1142 — Social Security Act 1991: Person withdraws from home equity access scheme

(1) If a person who is participating in the home equity access scheme makes a request to withdraw from the scheme, the scheme ceases to operate in relation to the person at the beginning of the first instalment period for the pension being paid to the person that begins after the request is lodged. Note: For repayment or recovery of the debt owed by the person, see sections 1139 and 1142A. (2) A request under subsection (1) must be signed: (a) if the person is not a member of a couple—by the person; or (b) if the person is a member of a couple—by both members of the couple. (3) The request must: (a) be in writing; and (b) be lodged at an office of the Department.
