Section 30L — Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986: Other payments of compensation

If: (a) any pension has been paid under this Part in respect of: (i) the incapacity of the veteran from war-caused injury or disease; or (ii) the death of the veteran; and (b) any compensation is paid: (i) under the law of a country other than Australia; or (ii) by, or under a scheme arranged by, an international organisation; to, or in respect of: (iii) a veteran in respect of the same incapacity of the veteran from that or any other injury or disease; or (iv) a dependant of a deceased veteran in respect of the death of the veteran; the Commonwealth may recover from the veteran or dependant, by action in a court of competent jurisdiction, an amount equal to the amount of compensation paid that does not exceed the total of the pension paid under this Part to the veteran or dependant. Note: For international organisation see subsection 30B(4).
