Section 54 — Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987: Dismissal for cause not affected

54 Dismissal for cause not affected Nothing in this Act shall affect any right of an employer to dismiss an employee for a substantial reason not related to— (a) the pregnancy of the employee or the pregnancy of the employee's spouse or partner; or (b) The employee assuming, with a view to adoption by the employee or by the employee and the employee's spouse or partner jointly, the care of a child; or (c) The employee's rights under this Act. Compare: 1980 No 162 s 32 Paragraph (a) was substituted, as from 26 April 2005, by section 4 Parental Leave and Employment Protection Amendment Act 2005 (2005 No 18). Paragraph (b) was amended, as from 26 April 2005, by section 8 Parental Leave and Employment Protection Amendment Act 2005 (2005 No 18) by inserting the words “ or partner ” after the word “ spouse ” .
