Section 71K — Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987: Start of parental leave payment

71K Start of parental leave payment (1) A parental leave payment is payable to an employee for a period that begins on the date of commencement of his or her parental leave. (2) A parental leave payment is payable to a self-employed person for a period that begins on the earliest of— (a) the date the person commences parental leave; or (b) the date of confinement; or (c) in the case of adoption, the date on which the person assumes (with a view to adoption by that person or by that person and that person's spouse or partner jointly) the care of the child. Part 7A (comprising sections 71A to 71ZA) was inserted, as from 1 July 2002, by section 4(2) Parental Leave And Employment Protection (Paid Parental Leave) Amendment Act 2002 (2002 No 7). Subsection (2) was inserted, as from 1 July 2006, by section 33 Parental Leave and Employment Protection (Paid Parental Leave for Self-Employed Persons) Amendment Act 2006 (2006 No 20).
