Section 66A — Sentencing Act 2002: Court may authorise hours of work to be converted into training

Text of the provision Official document

66A Court may authorise hours of work to be converted into training (1) This section applies to sentences of community work of at least 80 hours. (2) A court may, when imposing a sentence of community work, or at any time on application by a probation officer, authorise a probation officer to direct that some of the hours of work ordered to be undertaken be instead spent in training in basic work and living skills. (3) In determining whether to give an authorisation under this section, the court must take account of both— (a) the benefits of skill development to the offender for reducing the likelihood of his or her reoffending; and (b) the need to hold the offender accountable to the community by making compensation to it. Section 66A: inserted, on 1 October 2007, by section 31 of the Sentencing Amendment Act 2007 (2007 No 27).
