Section 171 — Housing Act 1985: Power to extend right to buy, etc.

Power to extend right to buy, etc. 171 1 The Secretary of State may by order provide that, where there are in a dwelling-house let on a secure tenancy one or more interest to which this section applies, this Part and Part IV (secure tenancies) have effect with such modifications as are specified in the order.

2 This section applies to an interest held by—

a local authority, a new town corporation, a housing action trust an urban development corporation, a Mayoral development corporation, . . . the Regulator of Social Housing or Scottish Homes , a non-profit registered provider of social housing or a registered social landlord , which is immediately superior to the interest of the landlord or to another interest to which this section applies.

3 An order under this section—

a may make different provision with respect to different cases or descriptions of case;

b may contain such consequential, supplementary or transitional provisions as appear to the Secretary of State to be necessary or expedient;

and c shall be made by statutory instrument which shall be subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House of Parliament.
