Section 161 — Road Traffic Act 1988: Interpretation.

Interpretation. 161 1 In this Part of this Act— “ hospital ” means any institution which provides medical or surgical treatment for in-patients, other than—

a health service hospital within the meaning of the National Health Service Act 2006 or the National Health Service (Wales) Act 2006 or the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . any institution carried on for profit, “ policy of insurance ” includes a covering note, “ salvage ” means the preservation of a vessel which is wrecked, stranded or in distress, or the lives of persons belonging to, or the cargo or apparel of, such a vessel, and “ under the owner’s control ” means, in relation to a vehicle, that it is being driven by the owner or by a servant of the owner in the course of his employment or is otherwise subject to the control of the owner. 2 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

3 In this Part of this Act, any reference to an accident includes a reference to two or more causally related accidents.
